Titles in red and black and elaborate decorated additional title in fine contemporary colour, with over  900 contemporary coloured engravings in the text. 8 pp., 1081 pp., 25 pp. Small folio, (240 x 180mm.), contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, with later leather clasps, occasional browning of text, but a very nice example of a rare coloured copy in an attractive contemporary binding.

First and only German edition of this beautiful Kräuterbuch which first appeared in Rome in 1585. The author Castore durante (1529-1590) was  physician and botanist of Pope Pius V. This is a very handsome and rare coloured herbal by Durante (1529-90), Italian poet, physician, and botanist. The plant descriptions, along with accounts of their medicinal qualities, are presented in verse directly below the illustrations. These are followed by more detailed text giving names, forms, localities, and medicinal virtues.
