FIRST EDITION of this important work on sundials and astronomy by Jean Voellus (1541-1610,professor of Greek and Rector at Lyon,Dole and Tournon.
Voellus discusses the construction of various types of sundials and quadrants as well as general aspects of sundials,enlightening his descriptions with numerous diagrams, of which some are full-page.The work begins with several poems,including one in Greek and one in Hebrew and continues with learned descriptions and designs for sundials with information regarding their use in astronomical deductions.
A very good copy of this rare work with a manuscript note loosely inserted.
